The Cathedral Choir

A royal priesthood gathered not only to sing but also to grow

The Saint Joseph Cathedral Choir offers a rich tradition of excellence in liturgical music that enhances the worship experience for those who enter our historic Cathedral.

Saint Joseph Cathedral Choir

Our calling:

"We are God’s people: People from all walks of life who serve God as ministers in music, who enjoy singing sacred music. We are a royal priesthood, gathered not only to sing, but also to grow in faith and love toward God and one another."

The assembly at Mass is its principal group of singers, yet they are assisted by the St. Joseph Cathedral Choir, whose musical skills and commitment to their craft enrich Cathedral celebrations by adding musical elements beyond the capabilities of the congregation alone.

Our choir draws on the vast treasury of the Church's sacred music, often singing compositions by composers of various periods and in various musical styles, as well as music that expresses the faith of the various cultures that enrich the Church.

Our purpose:
  • To glorify God with all that we are;
  • To minister to everyone we meet that Christ be glorified in their lives, and especially at worship;
  • To enhance our shared liturgical experience;
  • To open the minds of our fellow parishioners to musical expressions of greater vision and depth; and
  • To encourage and enhance congregational singing
Our rehearsal:

Wednesday evenings, 6:30 to 8 pm in the Cathedral Parish Hall. We rehearse from the first Wednesday in September that follows Labor Day through the feast of Corpus Christi. Rehearsals also are held before the 10:30 am Sunday Mass.

Our service:

The Cathedral Choir typically sings for every 10:30 am Sunday Mass during the year from mid-September through the feast of Corpus Christi. The choir presents a concert at Christmas preceding the Mass in the Night. A smaller chamber choir, the Cathedral Gallery Singers, and a larger volunteer one, the Diocesan Choir, are often organized to sing for special liturgies and diocesan events such as ordinations, the Chrism Mass and other services throughout the year.
