Christened “Providence†at its dedication in 1992
The Saint Joseph Cathedral Bicentennial Memorial Pipe Organ, christened “Providence” at its dedication during the Parish's bicentennial in 1992, was built by the Reuter Organ Company of Lawrence, Kansas. Of considerable size and scale, still the instrument is impressive not only due to the number of its pipes and stops, but much more the wide spectrum of sound realized in its design and building.
The basic tonal concept of this instrument was suggested by the musical tradition here at the Cathedral, where the repertoire is not restricted to any certain period or style. The instrument includes flamed copper façade pipes, casework of oak, with a French design console of white oak and walnut. The organ contains 50 ranks over three manuals and pedals.
