Lenten Schedule

Please participate eagerly and seriously in this classically Catholic penitential season.

Lent at St. Joseph Cathedral in 2026

Please find below a variety of important notes about our scheduling for this Lenten Season:

Mardi Gras Schedule

  • Saturday, Feb 7 and February 14, 2026, there is no confession or Mass due to downtown parades.  Please join us for 8:30 or 10:30 on Sunday.
  • The parish Office and Church will be closed on February 16 and 17, 2026 for the Mardi Gras holiday

Lenten Schedule

  • The “first” Lenten practice is Ash Wednesday Mass, February 18, 2026 at noon with distribution of Ashes. Ash Wednesday is not a “holy day of obligation” but it is a favored way to begin the holy season.
  • Fish Fry lunches $10 on Friday, February 20,  March 6, and  March 20, 2026.  Tickets will be available in the office or after daily mass.
  • The “mandatory” penances for Lent are fasting and abstinence. Catholics between 18 and 59 must fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, and if over 14 they must also abstain from meat on those days and all other Lenten Fridays.
  • The most popular “regular” Lenten practices here at the Cathedral include daily Mass Tuesday through Friday at noontime, and weekly Stations of the Cross on Fridays at 11:30 am.
